Scottish Apprenticeship Week

Scottish Apprenticeship Week — from 5th to 9th March 2018 — is the annual campaign to encourage more employers to take on apprentices and more young people to consider an apprenticeship. Skills Development Scotland (SDS) co-ordinates the campaign and we want everyone with a shared interest in the success of apprenticeships and work-based learning to get involved.

The campaign theme is Apprenticeships are the Business — highlighting the importance of apprenticeships to individuals, businesses and the economy. The range of Scottish apprenticeships continues to grow with the increase in Foundation Apprenticeships for pupils and Graduate Apprenticeships for employees, alongside growing numbers of Modern Apprenticeship jobs.

MSPs have been asked to support the campaign by visiting an employer or training provider to meet apprentices between 5 and 9 March. As well as providing the MSP with the chance to meet apprentices and learn about the work they do, their visit offers an opportunity to showcase companies and what they do to support apprentices. During the visit, MSPs will meet and greet apprentices as well as other staff involved in their training. The visits often involve a tour of the premises and a chance for photographs of the apprentice(s) with the MSP. An SDS staff member will also attend the visit and be on hand to answer any questions about apprenticeships the MSP may have.

Visits have been arranged to see two Scottish Bakers members: The Breadwinner Bakery in Edinburgh on Monday 5th March and The Bakehouse in Airdrie on Friday 9th March.

Further visits have also been arranged to Yester Dairies on Monday 5th March and Highland Spring on Friday 9th March as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week. #ScotAppWeek18

About Us

National Food and Drink Training (NFDT) was established in 2015 as a rebrand of Scottish Bakers training provision. This was a direct result of the strengthening of its portfolio to include lean manufacturing techniques and the delivery of the new Food Manufacturing Excellence (FME) qualifications.
